British court upholds the decision of Malik Riaz visa revocation

LONDON: A British court has upheld the Home Office's decision to revoke the 10-year multi-entry visa of Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz and his son Ahmed Ali Riaz on the grounds that they were deported from the UK for the public good. Eviction is appropriate.

According to media reports, the Home Office decided to revoke his visa after considering a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation and a کروڑ 190 million settlement with Malik Riaz in 2019.

Rejecting the appeal, the UK court ruled that the Home Office's conclusion that Malik Riaz and his son had been involved in corruption and financial/commercial corruption was based on their involvement in Bahria Town's affairs.

Both the court and the Home Office relied heavily on Supreme Court decisions and orders, NAB inquiries, and the JIT report attached to Bahria Town.

It may be recalled that Malik Riaz and his son had a 10-year UK visit visa till July 28, 2021, and May 18, 2021, respectively.

The Home Office canceled the visas on December 10, 2019, a week after the NCA announced its investigation and settlement with the founder of Bahria Town.

In an effort to resolve the dispute before the court proceedings began, Malik Riaz's lawyers filed a Pre-Action Protocol (PAP) petition with the Home Office in which a fresh decision to revoke their visas was taken on January 31, 2020. ۔

He then applied to the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) for a judicial review.

On November 17, 2020, the tribunal rejected Malik Riaz's claim for judicial review and the Home Office ruled in favor of revoking the visa.

Malik Riaz and his son then filed an appeal in the Royal Courts of Justice on seven grounds that upheld the tribunal's decision on judicial review.

The decision included a letter from the Home Office to Malik Riaz and his son informing them of the decision to cancel the visas.

Malik Riaz and his son further objected to the court's decision, saying that the UK Home Office and the tribunal had wrongly concluded that majority opinion provided serious and/or concrete evidence of corruption.

The NCA's job is to investigate money laundering and illicit money from criminal activity in the UK and abroad. In the latter case, the stolen money is returned to the affected states. It appears that Malik Riaz had been under investigation by the agency for some time during the ongoing investigation into the 'black money. On 3 December 2019, the agency announced that an out-of-court settlement of  190 million pounds had been reached with Malik Riaz, adding that the settlement did not include a plea bargain. '

The deal with the NCA was forged in a special relationship with Pakistani citizens when Malik Riaz tweeted: Sold the acquired property as'.

It may also be recalled here that when it was proved that their real estate company Bahria Town Limited had illegally occupied thousands of acres of land on the outskirts of Malir District of Karachi, a few months back in March 2019. Malik Riaz offered the Supreme Court a fine of Rs 460 billion, which was accepted.
