At least one person was killed and three others, including his wife, were injured when gunmen opened fire on a couple's car in Karachi.


The couple had recently got married of their choice while the girl's family was against the marriage.


SSP Sharqi Raza Jaskani told Dawn.com that Wasim Ijaz was traveling in a car with his wife Kausar Wasim and other relatives when armed men in another car stopped his vehicle on Shahra-e-Faisal and attacked him. He fired indiscriminately.


He said that Wasim was killed on the spot while his wife was shot in the arm.


The other injured in the incident have been identified as Wasim's brother Ijaz Naseer and driver Syed Munir and have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital for treatment.


Dr. Samia Syed, a police surgeon at Jinnah Hospital, said Munir had been shot in the chest, leaving him in critical condition, while his brother and wife were out of danger.


According to him, the victim was shot eight times, seven of which hit his chest while his brother was shot in the leg.


According to the SSP, a person named Yaseen, who was traveling in the car, miraculously did not even get a scratch in the incident.


Yassin said that the girl's parents had lodged an FIR against Wasim on August 29, 2021, in which they had taken the position that Wasim had abducted their daughter.


The married couple appeared in court today to dismiss the FIR, where according to eyewitnesses, Kausar's parents, brother, and other relatives met him and tried to persuade him to return home, but Kausar refused. Refused to go with


Yassin said he was on his way to Steel Town when the girl's relatives chased him and opened fire on his car near Lal Kothi on Shahra-e-Faisal.


SSP Qamar Jaskani said that according to the person who survived the incident, five persons including the girl's father Aziz, brother Azeem and cousin Nasir were allegedly involved in the attack.


According to the police officer, Kausar and Wasim are from Larkana and police are further investigating the incident.
