 Muharram and our religious views

Written by Aiman Farooq

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic year. The Islamic year begins with a great sacrifice. And Allah Almighty has ended the Islamic year with a great sacrifice. Which reminds us of Hazrat Abraham and Hazrat Ishmael. Allah Almighty has taught us self-sacrifice by starting and ending the Islamic year with sacrifice. Muharram is one of the most important Islamic months after Ramadan. Muharram is of the greatest importance in Islamic history. In this, the sacrifice of Hazrat Muhammad's grandchildren and his family is a beacon for all Muslims. This sacrifice teaches us that we should not spare any sacrifice for the sake of Islam. Always keep the banner of truth and justice high.
Every year when Muharram comes, all Muslims celebrate this month with devotion and respect. All Muslims are taught love and sacrifice in Islam. Hazrat Muhammad's grandson cut off his head in prostration but did not stop praying. We Muslims also skip prayers in our free time. He climbed on the spear but did not stop reciting the Holy Quran. And we recite the Qur'an sometimes. Imam Hussein was beheaded for the sake of Islam. Raised the word truth. They endured so much oppression only for the sake of Islam, truth, and justice. The whole life of such a great sacrifice left an example for the Muslims so that no matter how much an oppressor oppresses them, they will still stand by the truth and will not accept its obedience, even if their lives are lost, they will never leave the truth and Islam.
Every year this month is celebrated with great devotion and respect. We Muslims everywhere discuss the importance and virtue and events of this month. There we hate each other on religious grounds. We are a religiously divided people. We hate Sunnis and Shiites. They call each other's religions and beliefs bad. The sins and rewards of people of every religion are their own. Allah Almighty has taught Islam to treat people of all religions with kindness and love. Hazrat Muhammad had a good attitude towards people of every religion and belief. Hazrat Hussain raised the knowledge of the truth. He taught love for each other and not for fighting each other based on religion.
Where the month of Muharram has virtue, the sacrifice of Hazrat Hussain and his entire family is unparalleled. Ashura Day 10 Muharram is the day of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions. Hazrat Imam Hussain was martyred while prostrating. In addition to such a great and everlasting sacrifice, many other events are part of Islamic history. Which occurred on the same day. Hazrat Younis was taken out on the same day after being kept in the belly of a fish for forty days. The nation of Hazrat Musa was liberated from pharon on the same day. Hazrat Esa was taken up to heaven that day because of the oppression of the Jews. Apart from these, many other incidents took place in this Muharram. Many people mourn the martyrdom of Hazrat Hussain. I ask why? The martyrs are alive. In the Qur'an, Allah Himself has said that a martyr is alive, do not consider him dead. We should not mourn because the living is not mourned. Everyone else has religious freedom. Don't make anyone hate you on religious grounds. Religious freedom is enjoyed by everyone in our country, but not in some countries. There is no independence in our neighboring country India. The rights of minorities are being violated there. We should thank Allah for this blessing.
Yazid did as much oppression on Hazrat Imam Hussain. He closed the Euphrates River to them. He martyred his entire family but still, he did not accept Yazid's obedience. Eventually, Yazid's pharaonic rule came to an end. Islam and truth won and falsehood lost. The more oppression grows, the sooner it disappears. Today no one names his children Yazid even though there was a Companion named Yazid who was martyred in this war. Since Yazid exists in history as a tyrant who inflicted mountains of atrocities on the Prophet's grandchildren, no Muslim to this day names his child.
We Muslims should not fall into separatism on this day but should respect only Muharram. We should do as many good deeds as possible. Because Hazrat Hussain was the grandson of the Prophet, he was respected by all Muslims and his name will continue to shine for the rest of the world. On this day, send as many Durood Sharifs to Hazrat Muhammad and his family. May Allah help us all to do good and keep us on the path of truth. Amen!
