Retra is an ancient town on the banks of the Indus River. It has a population of over 30,000. If the small settlements of the neighborhood are included, its population will exceed fifty thousand. There is also a British era police station, rest house and military ground. There is also a dispensary for health care which has now been given the status of a primary health center. Elders say that a large number of Hindus used to live here before independence who migrated to India after independence.

Coming to the current situation, there are several government-run girls 'and boys' primary schools, girls 'and boys' high schools. There are also about a dozen institutions in the private sector. Who are adorning boys and girls with education. There is also a technical college and several academies in the private sector. Despite this, no college has yet been set up for such a large population. Boys and girls have to go to big cities for higher education, as a result of which more than half of the boys and more than 90% of the girls are unable to continue their education. Due to lack of resources and poverty, parents are unable to provide higher education to their children.
If girls and boys degree colleges are built here at least initially, we can give a better future to our future generations.
There is a basic health center here. Earlier, there was a government rural dispensary here. Which has been upgraded in the past to become a primary health center. But even now it is not enough to carry the burden of overpopulation. That is why the rate of patients in the said primary health center is the highest in the entire district. The highest number of maternity cases are reported here from any government health center. Therefore, if a THQ level hospital is built here, then the health needs can be met here.
Its groundwater is brackish and unhealthy. There are several water supply schemes in operation. But due to rotten lines and motors, clean water is not available to the citizens. In addition, water supply is suspended for several days due to burning of motors. The installation of new lines and motors requires the attention of the government and public representatives. In addition, steps should be taken to install water filtration plants. About six or seven years ago, a water filtration plant was installed in the city of Rita. Even before its commissioning, the contractor had colluded with government officials. That filtration plant has not been operational to date. Even now a filtration plant has been set up in Basti Malkani but the contractor is still in a dilemma and the citizens are still deprived of clean drinking water and are forced to drink unhealthy water. Every day, people are losing their lives due to cancer, gastrointestinal and liver diseases and kidney diseases.
The city's biggest problem is drainage. There are no arrangements for sewerage and rainwater drainage. As a result, it has become impossible for citizens to leave their homes. The stench of dirty water has made the lives of citizens miserable. Infectious diseases are also often spread by insects that feed on dirty water. Due to which the citizens are suffering from severe problems. But due to repeated attention, the sewerage system is not being built.
Power lines and transformers are also very rotten. Every day there is a power outage in one area or another. Replacement of lines and transformers is urgently needed. More power projects are also urgently needed as new settlements emerge.

Retra is located in the middle of Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan, as well as a large town in the middle of Taunsa and Wahwa. In addition, the confluence of Layyah and Taunsa bridges is also going to take place on the Indus Highway at Retra. There is an urgent need for a rescue 1122 station. Because the two current rescue centers are a long way from here. In the event of an accident, Mazroobullah falls in love before the rescue team arrives. The construction of a rescue station here will benefit a large area and at the same time the 15 km area of ​​Layyah Taunsa Bridge Road will also be protected from it.
